The Wrestler

In the film many critics are proclaiming to be Mickey Rourkes big comeback; Mickey stars as Randy “The Ram” Robinson, an aging professional wrestler still making a living on the independent wrestling circuit.

Randy works part time in a supermarket to pay the bills and desperately wants one last shot at the big time. The film follows the build up to this all-important final bout and also focuses on his relationship problems; most notably with his daughter.

Our Verdict on the Wrestler DVD

I was looking forward to this DVD having read some great reviews beforehand and I wasn’t disappointed.

The story was a little slow at times but the characters were interesting enough to keep me captivated throughout. Rourke (who was nominated for Best actor at the Oscars) gave a gritty performance as “The Ram” and the supporting cast was also excellent.

Some of the wrestling scenes were a little gruesome for my tastes; but they are very believable and it does makes you wonder what really goes on behind the scenes of the pro-wrestling circuit.

Overall I give The Wrestler 4 out of 5 stars. A interesting story with a magnificent performance by Rourke.
