Vicky Cristina Barcelona has been highly acclaimed by the critics this year; with many proclaiming it to be Woody Allen’s best film in years!

The story follows two young American tourists Vicky (Rebecca Hall) and Cristina (Scarlett Johansson), who are spending the Summer in the gorgeous city of Barcelona.

The pair are best friend and agree on almost everything except for Love – Vicky looks for steady relationships with reliable men but Cristina needs fire and passion!

Their tastes couldn’t be more different until a handsome Spanish artist arrives on the scene. Juan is closely followed by his psychotic ex-wife (Penelope Cruz) which leads to some surprising outcomes.

Our Verdict on Vicky Cristina Barcelona

After so much hype surrounding the film, I was looking forward to watching this movie on DVD and I found it to be enjoyable.

The narration was sometimes annoying; stating the obvious for no apparent reason…

“Vicky and Cristina are walking down the street”.
“Cristina is going to the toilet”.

but it grows on you after a while; as do the main characters whose relationships are so complex and interesting you are drawn into their world.

If you are looking to watch an interesting, subtle, witty romance drama featuring beautiful people, stunning locations and great dialogue; then you will love Vicky Cristina Barcelona!

If you like fast-paced, laugh out loud movies then the film probable isn’t for you.

Overall I rate the film as 3/5 stars – it’s not my usual type of film but I did enjoy it.
